Invented in Turin in the 1860s, the same traditional recipe is used today with over 30% finely milled Piedmont hazelnuts IGP.

The flavour of roasted hazelnuts comes through with every bite, balanced against the rich fruity chocolate notes.  A truly ethereal chocolate experience.  

Awarded a Gold Star at the Great Taste Awards 2016.  Judges comments included:

The Story:

The Gianduiotto, an ingot shaped and foil wrapped chocolate hazelnut blend was first developed in 1852 by Michele and Paul Caffarel Prochet.  It was officially launched in 1865 during the carnival in Turin.

Gianduja (a gluttenous and bibulous man) is the character or mask that represents Turin in the Italian Commedia dell'Arte. The Gianduja character handed out these chocolates during carnival festivities. The name stuck, and from then on this particular type of chocolate became known as gianduia, and the little foil wrapped (cloaked) chocolates, named gianduiotti (pronounced jan-doo-ee-otty).
